Resolved Question: Can I afford to buy a single family home in Northern Virginia?
I currently have a 1 bed 1 bath condo in northern va (lakefront/hardwood floor throughout): mortgage $137,695, purchase price in 2005 was $321,000, currently assessed at $253,850. My development now is full of bank owned/short sale condos so prices are going down. A comp same model condo is asking $259,000 but no lakefront and carpeted, otherwise all same upgrades as me. Single family homes in a good neighborhoods as low as $449,000 and up to $500,000’s is what I’m looking at (prices not seen here in a while). Me: gross income: $71,000, take home (net) a month: $3,168, liquid cash $8,000, no debt other than my mortgage (pay credit card in full each month and own my car), credit rating is excellent and I am a conservative guy by nature. I was planning on selling condo with hope of pulling out $100,000 to put into new place. Can I afford to buy a single family home on my own with these numbers and situation? Thanks.

Resolved Question: What are the nicest parts of New Orleans now?
I used to live off of Robert E. Lee near the lakefront (Yes, house destroyed). I live in New York now and was wondering how uptown NOLA is doing now. What is City Park Like? Last time I was there was December of 05′ when I was trying to salvage some things from the house and the whole city was mourning. I am afraid to go back there because I’m afraid it won’t be the same. It doesn’t get any easier to think about my old home and I feel sicker about it every day. I was thinking about staying somewhere in the garden district or uptown New Orleans. I wanted to go to the zoo, city park and some museums. Am I dreaming or are these places no good anymore?

Resolved Question: I need tips. Outside rails need to be covered somehow for safety of my child?
I have a 10 month old daughter and she’s soon to be walking. I also live on a lakefront property so our house is elevated 15 feet off the ground. We have a large deck that has railing along it, but the spaces in between the railing are definitely large enough for anyone to squeeze through. We also have a flight of stairs you have to walk up and down to get into our home. I’m so afraid that when she’s older she might get away from me while we are walking outside and fall from the deck. Do they make anything that I could use to put around the railing, so she couldn’t possibly squeeze through and fall?…It really scares me and I would appreciate any ideas for how I could toddler-proof those rails.
