Resolved Question: Who has any information about subdivisions in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines?
My wife (who else?) doesn’t like to live in crowded barangays with chismoso neighbors. She gets claustrophobic! What she wants is a nice 2-storied house in a sub-division in the direction of direction SM and Lumbia airport, with a big garden, lots of green and forest around it, mountain view and not crowded, i.e. it shouldn’t be a home in a row of other houses of the same design.
We have been in touch with real-estate agents but they all want to push what they want or need to sell. The last one even offered a nice house in Cavite, Manila, which is almost 2-hours flying from CDO!! Lol.
Intelligent suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are still in Europe, but want this action settled sometime in February/March when we will be in the Phils.
Resolved Question: Where should we move to?
Where would you like to live or retire in the US?
The question becomes difficult to answer when family, friends and work are NOT part of the equation. Usually people relocate based on one of those three things.
Most people want to live in an area with a low crime rate, great schools, a warm climate, affordable housing, plentiful jobs and good hospitals.
Even so, not everyone will agree about the best place to live. Some people prefer mountains, some prefer the desert or maybe the ocean.
We are still not sure where to go, even after going through the Forbes “Best Places to Live” list and other similar web sites.
We are self employed and have a child with special needs. We are originally from Illinois but we have lived in Arizona for the past decade. We are looking for a change outside of these two states but we will likely travel back to Arizona in the winters if we will be living in a cold climate.
Criteria
We need to be within a 10 or 20 minute drive to a very good hospital.
Must be within a 45 minute drive to a reputable children’s hospital.
Must have excellent schools and a low crime rate.
There must be fun things for kids nearby, like a big city zoo, parks and recreation.
Fair weather with four seasons (or at least a little snow in the winter).
Elevation must be less than 4,000 feet at all times (cannot travel above this altitude).
We want to live in the country and we need a minimum of 7 acres for horses.
We are looking for privacy, nice views and clean air.
We like trees and green grass, not so much rocks, sand and cactus.
Shouldn’t be too cold in the winter or too hot or humid in the summer.
Cannot be further east than Ohio.
Oregon, Washington state, Colorado, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee are all out of the question.
Needs to be within a 50 minute drive to a big city with an international airport.
We don’t want to spend more than $475k for a 2400 square foot house in nice shape on at least 7 acres for horses, just a little outside of town.
Tax rates, short term economic growth and real estate trends do not concern us much, however we don’t want to live in an unclean area.
I work at home and do not need to commute anywhere. Satellite internet and a regular telephone keep me in business.
We realize that not all of the criteria can be met, so everything is listed in descending order of importance.

Resolved Question: My mom makes me feel guilty for being depressed while her and my dad are alcoholics. Why?
This is going to be quite long but I would appreciate it if you read it all and put some input. Thanks ![]()
Growing up, starting at about age 7 or 8 I noticed how often my parents drank alcohol, which was all the time. I am 17 years old now now and it got really bad during the summer months of the beginning of my middle school years when school was out. So to get my feelings out because I was so isolated (we go out to our summer home in the mountains where I had no friends) I started to keep a diary. I wrote down everything I felt towards them. Love, hate, insecurity, everything. I went into a bout of depression and I started to cut myself when I was in 7th grade which was how bad it got. I mean I don’t want this to be some story to make you feel sorry for me but in all honesty children of alcoholics aren’t supposed to overjoyed that their parents are passive and incoherent all the time.
Well long story/short my mother read my whole diary which was like the story of my life (seriously.) I wrote some really horrible things in there about myself and my parents. About how I was suicidal and how I used to cut and how I was on the edge of hating them. We got into this horrible screaming match at about midnight when I got home one random night. She said stuff like “We’ve provided a comfortable way of living for you! How could you feel this way?!” Yes, I agree with her because my father makes a good amount of money every year because he works in real estate. He actually sent me to Europe last summer. But bottom line is that I’m a COA. Children of Alcoholics. I’ve read up on COAs quite a bit. It’s normal for a COA to acquire depression. They’ve tried to buy my love ever since I was little. And honestly, it hasn’t worked.
If you go here: http://www.aacap.org/cs/root/facts_for_families/children_of_alcoholics
I’ve been through all those problems at one time or another. Guilt, embarrassment, etc…
I’ve told my mom that trust is such a fragile thing and she’s going to have to start earning it back from me and it’s really difficult for me to trust anyone now. The way I grew up was very different, my mom and dad ARE married but my dad works out of town all the time so I live with my mom and we both see him on weekends but summer he is always here. Recently my dad has gotten caught on a DUI so he quit drinking and my mom has also slowed down A LOT since she knows how it has affected me. I no longer cut and am no longer suicidal. I feel like I’ve never had parents because they were always passed out or drunk off their faces. I’ve even witnessed my dad almost stab my mom. I’ve had to pick up my mom off the floor numerous times because she’s passed out when she’s had too much to drink. And it has scarred me. But why is it that they think I should be a mentally normal child?
