Researcher casts shadow over sunny view of cottage living
At its best, a cottage gives us a connection with our pioneering past, a reason to escape the superficiality of city life and a place for families to come together to mark our earliest rights of passage, like the first swim to the big rock, or our maiden voyage in the tin boat. Voting Question: A dream about natural disaster, children, and government?
I had this horrible nightmare. I’m driving down the street by the Lakefront (Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, WI). I notice a gigantic rock almost in the shape of a lightning bolt fall from the sky and plunge into the lake. It rocks the city and floods it. For some reason, I’m thinking business as usual and end up walking through this water with my 6 year old daughter on my shoulders, my 4 year old son hanging on my back, and holding my 3 month old daughter above water to keep her from drowning. For some reason we go downtown and it’s very gray and dark. Almost stormy if a group of buildings can be described that way. Somehow the water is very clear and we can see what’s in it. As I’m walking through it, I see some sea lions, seals, and a group of whales. I know they can’t live in fresh water so I’m wondering how they’re there. As I’m walking through this water with my three children, suddenly I’m at home. The government steps in on this disaster and acts unusually. They grab up all of the mothers and women and we’re put in a “shelter” where we’re allowed only 50 minutes of sleep per day. We can’t lay down and space to move is almost nonexistent. We’re just allowed to sit there. The children including babies are treated the same way as are the men. I’m screaming and crying as I feel like my heart is being torn apart from not being able to be with or comfort my children. And it’s like the government workers have no human compassion or kindness. The crying of the babies is ignored and the heartbreak of their mothers is too. Yet I’m still remembering those whales, the sea lions looking at us, and the seals. What can this dream mean? I woke up whimpering and my husband had to calm me down. It terrified me.
